In order to promote sustainability in the built environment this practise ensures that our work reduces the impact on the environment wherever possible. Solutions are climatically, geographically and culturally appropriate. By combining the best of traditional and modern technologies, together with respect and care for the earth, a win-win solution can always be achieved. We have designed and built structures with straw bales, cob (mix of mud & straw), rammed earth, sandbags, mud brick, timber and stone. 

Registered Professional Architect with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) with all associated insurances in place. 

GREEN ARCHITECTURE & NATURAL BUILDING

With each project we consider the following:

•  Ensure all parties involved in a project have a thorough understanding of the impact and consequences of their choices.

•  Provide a thorough Green Specification for the builders. 

•  Promote opportunities for the transfer of skills and job creation. 

•  Locally available, natural materials guide the design and construction of the project. 

•  Create a healthy environment with the use of non-toxic finishes.

•  Ensure efficient use of water, energy and waste.

•  Ensure sound construction and site management by spending as much time on site as possible. This can manifest in the form of project management, mentoring, workshops or general hands–on  work.

RESTORATION & HERITAGE WORK

I firmly believe in the conservation of our architectural heritage and the practise was based in the Kalk Bay & St James Heritage Protection Zone since 2002. I have also undertaken restorations of old farm buildings in remote locations.

I am an active member of the Vernacular Architectural Society of South Africa (VASSA).

CARPENTRY & JOINERY 

I have a passion for timber and have produced a range of joinery products from recycled and local timbers (Eucalyptus’ Cameldulensis and Cladocalyx). 

All fresh cut timbers are moon phase harvested for all projects when possible. 

FURNITURE

All wood used is local, off-cuts or reclaimed timbers.
